Anthony Spirito was born in Elizabeth, NJ. He attended both Kean and Rutgers Universities where he studied philosophy and religion as well as film and writing. In 1997, after attending the New York Film Academy he decided to express his poetics through the medium of film. After moving to Newark, NJ in 1998 Anthony started his own video production company – As Films.. The company focused on documentary services for cultural, corporate and not-for-profit organizations in and around Newark.
In November 2000 Anthony was awarded a Film Fellowship from Rutgers Institute on Ethnicity, Culture and the Modern Experience. This allowed him the freedom to begin work on a feature length documentary film, Into The Arroyo. At this time, As Films. was expanding to encompass the focus on Anthony's own projects. Now, As Films and Anthony Spirito Productions has evolved into a creative extension of it's original mission.
